Apparently Bono has recorded a version of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah'. Maybe he could release it as a double a-sided single with an a capella version of Tim Buckley's 'Song To The Siren'.
You are quite right to want to go nowhere near that Bono track. I blogged a week of cover versions of Hallelujah, and inadvertently discovered it in the process. It goes beyond bad, into the realm of what-the-hell, and then out the other side right back into bad again. Critical space is non-Euclidean, I think.

I have started wondering what others song Bongo could include on his "Bongo Sings!" solo album.
