
I was sorry to hear of the death of David Ervine. Whatever else you might say about this paramilitary thug turned respectable politician, he was not a whiny, self-important windbag. The BBC's Mark Simpson remembers him here:

As part of my primary degree, I attended a talk by David Ervine at the PUP’s office on the Shankhill Road in Belfast 10 years ago. I was very impressed with him and found him to be a very articulate speaker. I thought he was one of the most progressive voices in unionism/loyalism. His death is not just a loss to that side of the sectarian divide, but to all of Northern Ireland.
