Massimo Bellardinelli

Reports are coming in that comics artist Massimo Bellardinelli has died. He will be fondly remembered for his work in 2000 AD on "Meltdown Man" and "Flesh". I remember reading somewhere that he also drew "Judge Dredd" occasionally, and once drew Dredd without his helmet... though Tharg then put a "censored" mark over his face.

This makes me sad. I remember Meltdown Man with great fondness. Every time I read Cordwainer Smith I think of that series. Did they ever reprint it in TB?

Cordwainer Smith... is he the guy who wrote 'The Game of Rat and Dragon' (about intelligent cats flying little space ships to fight the Cthulhoid horrors dwelling in the depths of space)? I keep meaning to read more by him.

They reprinted Meltdown Man over two issues of 2000AD Extreme - a floppy covered title in which they reprint often justly forgotten 2000AD stories. I bought them both, to have MM in one place, but have not got round to re-reading properly. It still looks like genius, though.

That's the man. A selection of his stories was reprinted as part of the 'Masterworks of Science Fiction' series a few years ago, so you should definitely pick up a copy.

He was Sun Yat Sen's godson you know....

And he was a pal of Chiang Kai-Shek (according to Wikipedia).
