They're just saying that to prevent panic. Everyone knows that by the Triassic, the giant sea scorpions had evolved pincers, a tail-sting, and an insatiable appetite for human flesh (or even more unpleasant contact with our species).

It's a pity that at least one of the articles about this find suggests that the ancient sea scorpion had neither pincers nor a sting. Bah!
